Product FAQ

Mississippi Lime precipitated calcium carbonate (CaCO3), commonly referred to as PCC, is a bright, high purity mineral.  Carbon dioxide is reacted with calcium hydroxide to form precipitated calcium carbonate with specific crystal morphology:

Calcium Hydroxide + Carbon Dioxide = Precipitated Calcium Carbonate
       {Ca(OH)2}     +       {CO2}       =     {CaCO3}

Precipitated calcium carbonate is one of the most versatile chemicals used in the modern paint/coatings, ink and paper making markets today.  PCC is a cost effective material used to improve the physical characteristics of finished products.  White pigments like PCC offer a wide variety of benefits in terms of gloss, brightness, opacity and viscosity.

Mississippi Lime’s precipitated calcium carbonate product lines are structured based on their end use functionality.  Mississippi Lime’s calcium oxide product families and description are shown below:

  • The Magnum Gloss® family of products are designed for coating applications and are available in powder and slurry form.
  • The Magnum Fill® family of products are designed for filler applications and are also available in powder and slurry form.
  • VitaCal™ PCC is high purity carbonate used in a variety of food industry applications.
  • PolyCal® PT1 Calcium Carbonate is a treated PCC produced for the PVC and Plastics Industries.
