Calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide serve as cost effective performance additives in rubber applications. Rubber applications have grown in their complexity over time requiring high purity calcium oxide as a dessicant and calcium hydroxide as an accelerant in rubber applications. Both materials can function as “activators” in vulcanization, while calcium oxide is used as a desiccant in rubber applications requiring smooth surfaces.
