In filler application, Magnum Fill® precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) provides good opacity and light scattering ability and retention property compared to other commercial PCC and GCC (ground calcium carbonate). In addition, Magnum Fill® gives improved strength properties that potentially allow the increased filler loading level. Due to its unique crystal morphology (SEM photo), Magnum Fill® has good dewatering properties that lead to improvement in drainage and machine runnability.
In filler application, PCC provides superior properties in opacity, brightness, bulk and smoothness compared to ground calcium carbonate (GCC). Other paper properties critical to papermakers such as good filler retention and strength properties can also be achieved with customized PCCs.
Magnum Fill® SD is an excellent functional filler having good opacity and optical properties. Magnum Fill® M is a Magnum Fill® product that is further processed to improve the physical characteristics such as particle size and Hegman grind/dispersability. Magnum Fill® SDL is a light density product that is an excellent paper filler but also has high oil absorption characteristics for benefits in paint and coatings. Magnum Fill® 65% is a high solids, high opacity functional filler in paper applications. Magnum Fill® 70% is designed to be an effective filler typically used in precoat applications. Magnum Fill® 65% is designed for balancing both optics, strength and shipping solids. It gives less disruption of fiber network and hence improved strength properties that potentially allow the increased filler loading level. Due to its unique crystal morphology, Magnum Fill® 65% has good dewatering properties that lead to improvement in drainage and machine runnability.
