Mississippi Lime’s Standard Quicklime and Standard Hydrated Lime product families are cost effective materials for both sludge and biosolids applications. Liquid Calcium Hydroxide (LCH) can be used as a substitute in many “liquid caustic” applications. Dust free, LCH can be the solution to many alkali handling problems. The micro-particulated version, Liquid Calcium Hydroxide MP is produced by our micro-particulation process to decrease particle size and increase reactivity and surface area.
Lime plays a very important role in the treatment of household and industrial waste sludge prior to disposal in landfills or as an agricultural supplement. In sewage plants where sewage sludge is removed by vacuum or pressure filtration, lime and ferric chloride are employed as filter aids in the conditioning of the sludge and for final clarification of the effluent.
Lime provides a safe means for:
- dewatering sludge, making it practical to handle and transport
- preventing leaching of metals that can contaminate ground and surface waters
- preventing or reducing odors
- adding calcium and magnesium to sludge which enhances its value as an agricultural supplement
